Carolina Cortez April 18, 1949 -December 15, 2012 Sgt. Carolina Cortez went to be with our Lord and Savior on Dec 15, 2012. She was born April 18, 1949 to Juanita Rodriguez Cortez and Pablo Cortez in San Angelo, Texas. She moved with her family to Bakersfield California in the mid 50's where she graduated in 1969 from EBHS and then enlisted in the Army, making her the First Woman in Southern California to invade the Bakersfield California Army Recruiting Center on Chester Ave. and served faithfully for nine years. Carolina is survived by her one and only son, Steven Cortez Hill, daughter-in-law and dear friend Ebony Larce Cortez, her grandchildren, Tyler Glasgow, Kristian Cortez Hill and Amari Hill whom meant the world to her. Her sisters, Luz and husband Harold, Gloria, Idalia, and Susie. A brother, Jose Daniel Cortez Sr. She had numerous nieces and nephews as well as several great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carolina was a firm believer in Our Heavenly Father, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, especially Amari whom she would frequently go and do their nails as a ritual. Carolina enjoyed life, she traveled all over the world during her years with the United States Army and enjoyed the various countries she visited. Carolina later worked for Kaiser Permanente where she retired after twenty years of devoted service to them. Carolina will be forever cherished by her family and wonderful friends, her beautiful smile and keen sense of humor. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 26th, 2013 at 10am at New Life Center, 4201 Stine Rd, Suite A -Spanish Venue, in Bakersfield, California.
