Celina Gloria Lumis Obituary
Celina G. Lumis passed away peacefully at her Rosewood home Friday, December 18th. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was the fourth of six children. She was raised in Boyle Heights, California until moving to Bakersfield in 1951. She worked in the medical field until marrying Robert "Bob" Lumis in 1966 and fulfilled her dream of being a mother to her two sons. While raising her boys, Celina was a devoted mother and also an active member in a number of local community organizations for many years. She was proud to be a member of the Bakersfield Chapter of The Women's Club, the Assistance League of Bakersfield and the Junior League of Bakersfield. Celina was also a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 198 where she and other Den Mothers started meeting once a month for lunch or dinner (aka the "Lunch Bunch"). Almost 40 years later, they are still meeting regularly.
In their later years, Celina and Bob settled into Kern City to take advantage of condo living and the peace of mind it brought. Later, she and Bob moved to Rosewood Senior Living Community. Celina lived there for 10 wonderful years, making many friends among her neighbors and staff.
Celina loved music, books, plays and the opera. She also enjoyed various television programs, including, Days of Our Lives, The Young & the Restless, N.C.I.S., Downtown Abbey, and Masterpiece Classics. Celina loved traveling and she and Bob took numerous trips and cruises in their later years; enjoying new places and experiences. She was known as a well-dressed lady who took pride in her appearance and was very proud of her two sons, often talking about them.
Celina was preceded in death by her late husband, Bob Lumis, her brothers Chuck and George Longuevan and her sister Juliet Longuevan. She is survived by her brother Arthur Longuevan and sister Virginia Gilmartin, her children, Bruce (Michelle) and Charles, along with two grandchildren, Jonah and Gianna. She is also survived by several loved nephews and nieces.
A special thank you to the staff at Rosewood Assisted Living, Rosewood Health Center, Dr. Patrick Daley and Hoffmann Hospice.
