McAtee Family-
There are so many things to say in a situation like this, yet only a small amount of words can be expressed. I am extremely sympathetic in these terms, yet also extremely blessed to have been able to meet "Chuck". I met him through my dad Steve Smoot and only was in his presence a couple of times. These couple times were all times I can remember.
Lauren, I got to know you a little bit at BHS and I am so glad to have been able to meet you. Your mom and dad truly created an amazing person.
You have been deeply blessed to have him as a family member and I know his memory will live on forever. I am extremely sorry and I know no words can truly express these emotions. My deepest wishes-

Dear Cathy; Lauren, and Chase,
I want to let you know my thoughts and prayers have been with you everyday since I learned about Chuck's passing.
I feel so fortunate that I had the chance to talk with Chuck on May 3rd. He was on his way to Chase's game---I had to call him on Kentucky Derby Day--. Laureen and Chase I can only share that your father was so proud of you---he was excited about sharing details of your current interests. We said goodbye as he arrived at your baseball game---and he was so happy to be there---a proud father.
Cathy --- Chuck and I spoke about seeing each other, to catch up on life, as he had scheduled trips to Orange County---and to have you come down for a dinner----that was past due. As usual Chuck and I both said at the same time "I'M NOT FEELIN the LOVE"---since it had been a few months since we had reached out to each other.
I will always cherish the time we all spent together---when I spent the nights @ your home I felt like family:) Lauren--I remember the stars you had pasted on your bedroom ceiling---I can assure you if you look out to the sky---Chuck will be at the brightest star**
Cathy----Thanks for being patient and letting Chuck and I out early in the morning on weekends to have a typical Kentucky breakfast---with sausage gravy!! We had great times together---Thanks for letting me share time with you and your family.

Dear Cathy,
My heart is breaking for you and your family. I remember when we worked together many years ago at The Kentucky Oaks Mall at The County Seat-The Jean Store. That seems like a lifetime ago. If I'm not mistaken it was then that you started dating Chuck. I always thought he was so nice and you all made such a cute couple. The Mom in me just makes me wish that I could make it all better for you. Just lean on the Lord and remember you've got a lot of people that care about you. I'll be praying for you, Lauren and Chase.

Cathy and family,
We want to offer our sincere condolence as you go through this most difficult time of grief and loss. Though we are far removed from our high school years, we all still seem like extended family and when one hurts, we all hurt. I wish I had magical words that would comfort you during this time and take away all of your pain and sorrow. Unfortunately, I don’t. I believe the Lord will give strength and comfort to those who pray for it, and that’s what our family is doing for you and yours. May God comfort, strengthen, encourage, and bless you during this time when you need it most. Jeff & Chanda Jones.

It seems as if anyone who ever crossed paths with Chuck was blessed in some way by his wonderful personality. Everyone describes him using similar words - kind, loving, caring, happy, and the one word that came to my mind - jovial. I don't believe there was a time I saw Chuck that he wasn't smiling and happy. I haven't seen Chuck or anyone in his family since you all moved away, but I have wonderful memories of you. I was quite a bit younger when Chuck was a big part of my family, but he always made it a point to make me feel included. He had always called me "smiley" but it seems as if that should have been his nickname. When he married Cathy, she was the perfect fit for him - just as sweet, happy, and caring as he was. My heart goes out to all of Chuck's family and friends and I continue to keep you in my prayers. May God bless you with peace and comfort during this most difficult time and give you the strength and ability to heal.

Cathy, Chase and Lauren - I went to school with Chuck and am Meshea Woodall's best friend. I always kept up with everything in your life through her or Mike and Barbara Kelly - Chuck always was bigger than life. Since Meshea called and told me the tragic news, you all have been in my thoughts and my prayers everyday! He was a truly unique, loving, fun man who I know will be greatly missed.

Kathy, Lauren, and Chase:
Chuck was such a blessing to Kevin and I when we needed an answer to our "situation" in our Real Estate beginning. We still have some Mac & Mac Signs at our house. His kindness and encouragement are the reason that Kevin is an Auctioneer today. He was a true friend to us and I feel very blessed to have known him. His loss has certainly touched our live. We will continue to keep your family in our prayers as I know how much "family" meant to Chuck. We are all better people for having known him, and you are all special to us. God bless you. Kandi

Cathy, Lauren, and Chase,
Our hearts are grieved by the loss of Chuck/your Dad. He was a fun, happy, and a successful man. A man that always showed a loving personality when he was around. His love extended through you three as we can still see your smiling faces from the time you lived in Paducah, KY. May God comfort you in your sorrow and the great memories of your husband/Dad overtake your grief in the days to come. Our prayers are with you.

Dear Cathy and Family:
We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Chuck. Susie and I were your neighbors on Banberry Bend when Lauren had just been born. Chuck was still working as a Union Insulator and we were both on the road a lot. Chuck was a wonderful guy and always put his Family first.
We will miss you Chuck. Cathy, you and your Family are in our hearts.

We are so sorry for your loss. We absolutely adore your family and our hearts are broken with yours. We are lifting your family up in prayer, asking Our Lord to wrap His loving arms around each of you...We feel so blessed to have known Chuck. He was a wonderful man; adoring husband, loving father. It is a testimony to his fine character that in the years that we have known him through Southwest baseball, he never once spoke of his professional success--he spent his time talking of his family--his true passion. There wasn't a person that met Chuck that didn't walk away his good friend. We will deeply miss our good friend. And although we already miss his smile, his laugh and his southern twang when he said, "Hey, Justine!" we know he now walks in the light of the presence of Our Lord!
Our love and prayers,

Our prayers are with you, and we know that your strong faith will provide the strength you'll need.
Chuck "Mac" had the amazing ability while we were growing-up to stay in all of the social circles without doing any of the stupid, dangerous, and often illegal things that teenagers do. He was like an angel for me more than once, when I really needed help out of a situation, he would show up. He sure has touched a lot of people all across this country. It is a true honor to be his friend.

Cathy,
This is Jeanie (Driver) Culp from Paducah. I was so shocked when I read your sad news in The Paducah Sun. I can't tell you how sorry I am for your loss. It seems like yesterday you were playing with Ryan in my living room floor in Calvert City. I was so happy for you and Chuck when you found each other...Cathy, it's been ten years since my husband, Rick, passed away so unexpectedly and it breaks my heart to know the devastation you and your kids are feeling. I will tell you that now you just have to take life one moment at a time...not a day at a time...one moment at a time. You've always taken care of others, it's time to let them take care of you. My prayers are with you all...
Love,
Jeanie

Dear Cathy,
You may not remember me, it's been a long time....my name is Crystal Bruer(Bickerstaff). I used to work for you guys at the "Chuckwagon" and then later I babysat Lauren and Chase until you guys moved. I am so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how you are feeling. I just want you to know that my famly will be praying for you and the kids. I wish I had some encouraging words for you, but have to admit I'm still a little shocked about all of this myself. He was such a wonderful man and I looked up to both of you so much. One thing I remember mostly about you Cathy is your grace. And like most things I know you'll get thru this time with not only your grace, but God's grace. Bless you all...

You are deep in all of our prayers. He was like a second father to both Shelby and me. He was a greatly loved man and even though i am a half a world away, if i can do anything at all just say the word and I'm at your beckon call. I love you all very deeply and i know i wouldn't be the same person if i hadn't been blessed with Lauren as my best childhood friend. I was blessed to know you all and I'm terribly sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers and I love you.

CATHY, LAUREN & CHASE,
WHEN I MOVED TO CAIRO RD. IN WEST PADUCAH I WAS 6 YRS. OLD. THIS BOY FROM ACROSS THE STREET WAS ONE OF THE FISRT TO COME WHEELING OVER THERE ON HIS RED BIKE. FROM THE 1ST I MET HIM I KNEW HE WAS A PERSON YOU WOULD WANT IN YOUR LIFE FOREVER AND THAT HE DID STAYED IN OUR LIFE FOREVER. MY FAMILY SHARED MANY MEMORIES WITH HIM. ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL MEMORIES WAS WHEN HE MET HIS WIFE CATHY. HE WAS SO EXCITED THAT SHE LOVED HIM LIKE HE LOVED HER. IT WAS PERFECT. CHUCK'S DAD ALWAYS SAID CHUCK WANTED TO BE MARRIED AND HAVE A FAMILY EVERY SINCE HE WAS 5 YRS. OLD. WELL HE GOT WHAT HE WANTED WITH SUCH A WONDERFUL WIFE (MOTHER) AND 2 BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN. I AM SO VERY SORRY YOU ALL HAVE SUCH A HEAVY BURDEN IN YOUR HEARTS! KEEP REMEMBERING THAT SMILE ON HIS FACE AND ALL THE MEMORIES YOU ALL MADE. MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS WILL BE WITH YOU DAILY.

Cathy, I’m so sorry for your loss. If you or the kids need anything please feel free to contact us.
Big Mac, you will be severely missed. We sweated together, bleed together and cried together during our football days. We both even had the extreme pleasure of having Coach Haskins plant his foot in our back sides a few times.
After school we got to know one another as Christian Brothers, followers of Christ. That is why I know where you are today and forever more.

Tuesday May 6, 2008 was a day that I will never forget! That was a day that we lost one of the most memorible, charismatic, generious, loving, honest, caring and the list gones on an on about this man!!! Chuck was more then just a boss to me, he was a friend, someone that I could talk to and would be there to give the best advise ever!! He was someone that would tell it like it is, highly respected and made an inpact on evey person he meet!
It was a tragic accident that took the life of this man who still had so much work to do in this world! I was blessed enough to start work with him in 2002 thru 2005 and return in 2007! All of the employees at PAX are more then just co workers, we are family all because of Chuck!
My heart goes out to his wife and 2 children, they were robbed of a husband and father, as we all have lost someone that can NEVER be replaced. Chuck filed a void in many lives, he was only 41 years old, and would have turned 42 in the 24th of May! Even though he was 1 month to the day younger of my Husband, Marti and I called him Dad!!! Chuck put up with Marti and I and that man was a saint for that! haha,,we had some good times!!
Life has to go on, he would not have wanted anyof us to dwell on his death, if its meant to be we will be able to push forward with PAX and make this the company Chuck always knew it would be!
Its hard to say goodbye to someone who was such a huge part of your life, but its not a good bye forever its more of I will see you agian! Chuck you're in a better place now and I know that your presence is all around us and we will make it though this very hard time!!
You taught me alot about the Auction Business and I will cherish all the memories we had!!
We all Love and Miss you!!

What a wonderful man I had the honor to know and work under the past 5 years. I appreciate all the time he spent teaching me and molding me into the person he helped me become today. Chuck opened so many doors for me and exposed me to so many great opportunities that I will be eternally gratefull.
His greatest love in life was his family and I really admired him for that. He was such a proud dad and husband. We spent many hours on the road going to auctions talking about our families, our hopes & dreams for them.
It's rare to meet someone like Chuck and I feel I'm the luckiest person on earth to have spent 5 short years with him.
He was my mentor but most of all my friend.
I miss you Chuck & I'll see ya later.
