In Loving Memory of Charles (Charlie) Henry Hein Jr. 02/02/1941 - 11/25/2013 To our family and friends: The season is turning over. Fall is in the air with chilling temperatures - crisp clean air and a brilliant blue sky. As Charlie would say, "there's frost on the pumpkin". We know that life has it's seasons too, and now this one has come to a close. Charlie passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by those he loved, on November 25, 2013. Although for many decades he called Visalia his home, Charlie lived the last several years in Anacortes, Washington. Surrounded by the beauty of nature and the calmness of water, he found joy and peace in life's simple pleasures. Watching the eagles soar during mating season brought a smile to his face. Charlie had an incredible zest for life and he lived it on his own terms. He took care of so many people, no matter their station in life. He will be remembered by many in many special ways, I will remember him as a gentle soul with, yes, a "heart of gold". He showed the simple virtues in so many of these old, familiar expressions. They may sometimes sound quaint, but for Charlie, they're not - they simple ring true. He was "larger than life". "A gentleman and a scholar". "The last of a dying breed". Many know the legend, only some know the man, but I was blessed to have known both. Always kind and charitable, you'll remember how he'd raise a glass to old friends and good spirits, and feeling no pain, say: "Gentlemen, start your engines!" Let's all recall him in that spirit of grace, and think not about ends, but of all of those generous beginnings. Thank you for the last incredible 17 years my friend, my gentleman. I will miss you for eternity. His loving wife and eternal friend. Dolly Hein www.bakersfield.com/obits
