Christian Hall Carlin Obituary
Before any of this ever happened, I thought I knew what it was like to be grateful. To wake up in the morning happy and satisfied, and thankful for the day ahead.
This is the kind of thing that happens to other people, it doesn't happen to us. We have things to do or not do. We may flip the channels looking for the best sports story, but never in the market for tragedy. Tragedy is something that happens to someone else, until it happens to you.
I'm aware, now, that we are that someone else. We're the story that gets told over coffee, met with the sad nodding of the head. Eventually, life goes on for everyone else, even when ours has stopped.
Christian's story has one redeeming quality. Its ability to highlight the very best in us; the very best in others. Our happy is happier. Our sadness is more. Our lives are more poignant, in every way. This isn't a crash story. It's a love story. All of it, the whole thing.
All of the cliche' things that people say about life are true, and have become even more so. Life is precious and brief and cruel and sweet, even if it isn't fair.
Christian is survived by his parents, Daryl and Shelley Carlin, brother Lil' Daryl, sisters Breanna and Candice, and his son, Jason, who will grow up to know his father's unconditional love through his story.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christian Carlin Memorial Fund. The link can be found:
