She fought the Good Fight for 6 years, defying all odds with her will and determination, having to relearn every normal daily activity. Cindy passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the ones she loved.
Cindy was born on May 25, 1957, in Springfield, Mass. to Charles and Helen Evleth. After her father's death, her mother moved the family to Pasadena, CA. in 1971. While in Pasadena, she worked as an EMS worker, this job helped shape her future career choices. She would eventually meet her husband, Lynn Thum, and settle in Bakersfield, CA. in 1978. Here she raised her family, her son Lawrence, and daughters Brianna, and Lauren. During this time, Cindy joined the nursing program at Bakersfield College, where she received her Associates Degree, and graduated top of her nursing class in 1989. She would later go on to work 19 years as an RN in the Emergency Room at KMC; while there she would help start the first SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program. She also worked as a supervising nurse at Wasco State Prison for the last 10 years of her career. She was a very dedicated and highly motivated worker her entire life, and loved every minute of helping others. With her compassion and empathy, she was someone that touched every person she encountered.
Cindy was the example of love, hard work, and fun, especially to her children and grandchildren. She was a woman who came from having nothing, to being able to give to anyone that was in need, with a kind heart and huge smile.
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen, step-son Jeremy Thum, and niece Amanda Evleth. She is survived by her husband, Lynn Thum, her children Lawrence (Beth) Thum, Brianna (Eric) Garcia, Lauren Thum, Jennifer Jojola, her sisters Sally, Charlene, Cathy and Carrie, her brothers Michael and Charles, and numerous family and friends. One of her most important roles was Nana to her ten grandchildren Ashley, Kaylee, Haley, Madilynn, Johnathon, Charlie, Thomas, Kamryn, Kellan, and Kassidy. The family would especially like to thank Eufemia Caridad "P", for being Cindy's caretaker, companion, and treasured friend for the last two years.
