CIRILO RODRIGUEZ

Obituary Condolences

CIRILO RODRIGUEZ Obituary
It is with great sorrow we announce that our father, Cirilo "Sam" Rodriguez, 84, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2016, at his home with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 yrs., Anita; parents, Jose and Rafaela Rodriguez; sisters, Cora Frando, Angela Asuncion, Mary Marquez, Naomi Vigil, Hope Jasso, and Juanita Cabrera; brothers, Daniel and Albert Rodriguez.
Born in Phoenix, AZ, our father experienced many things that made him the man he was. During the Depression years, his father moved the family to begin working in the towns of the Central Valley to support a family of 13. When working in Delano, he would meet the love of his life, and they were married in 1949. They raised six children and had enough love and patience to raise a grandson.
Surviving children are Mary Ester Rivera, Diana Olson, Sam Rodriguez Jr., Sylvia Gonzalez, Ephraim Rodriguez, Antonia Coronado, honorary son Israel Corral; sisters, Ester Aviles, Ruth Hernandez, and Jeanette Acosta; brothers, Joe Rodriguez Sr., Esteban and Zeke Rodriguez; 45+ grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. And as Dad would have said ... many "in-laws and out-laws."
Along his way, he learned the skills of driving a semi-truck that would take him to many cities for 35 years. In those cities, he met and made countless friends that to the day of his death he remembered and cherished. That was my dad; he had integrity, honor, and respect for all and was the type to give you the shirt off his back. If there was a need, he was there.
Sam, as he was known, had a sense of humor and a smile that people were drawn to almost instantly. If you were a stranger when you met...you were good friends when you parted ways. If the situation was tense, he had a way of making you feel so at ease in the middle of a storm. That was our dad. He will be greatly missed by us and those that even for a brief moment had the chance to meet him.
His greatest passion was reading the Word of God and discovering His mysteries. He loved singing, playing guitar and piano, of which he was self-taught and blessed by God. No one could play like our dad. We would like to thank all our friends and families that lifted him up in thoughts and prayers for God's will to be done. Also, we would like to thank Irene Asuncion for all your help and Optimal Hospice for all the care, support, and help that he and the family received during his brief illness.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m., and the Celebration Service will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016, at Greenlawn Funeral Home Northeast, 3700 River Blvd. A reception will follow at the Druids Hall, 501 Sumner, Bakersfield, CA 93305.
