Clair Emily Campbell Obituary
Clair Emily Campbell, 85, passed away peacefully at home in Bakersfield on July 17, 2015.
She was born Clair Emily Kerlin on June 21, 1930, in Sullivan, IN, and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1948. After attending a private girl's Catholic college in St. Louis, MO, she moved to Santa Barbara to work in the airline industry before meeting and marrying her beloved husband of 48 years, Paul Campbell, who owned the American Jewelry Company in Bakersfield.
Through the years, Clair and Paul enjoyed spending time with their blended family, which included his three children: Paul Campbell of Dawsonville, GA; Becky Saenger, (husband Carl) of Bakersfield; and Scot Campbell of Grizzly Flats, CA; as well as nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Clair and Paul also had a special bond with the seven nieces and ten nephews from the Kerlin side of the family. Many happy times were spent at Clair and Paul's home and at their ranch retreat in the Poso Flat area. Clair also enjoyed frequent visits to her hometown of Sullivan, IN, and nearby Vincennes, IN.
An avid animal lover, Clair loved her dogs, especially her poodle, Shawn, and shih tzu, Shadow, and more recently cats, Mrs. Riley and Molly. Her number one bond, however, was to her faith; and she was a faithful member of St. Francis Catholic Church until the time of her death.
Clair was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Campbell; father, Richard C. Kerlin; mother, Eugenia J. Kerlin; and brothers, Richard M. Kerlin and Thomas E. Kerlin.
In addition to her children, Clair is survived by brother, James P. Kerlin (wife Carolyn) of Vincennes, IN; sister, Kay Borchers of Dayton, OH; and sisters-in-law, Lida Kerlin of Vincennes, IN, and Ann Kerlin of Birmingham, AL.
A memorial service will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest on Saturday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m.; and her final resting place will be at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, IN. For condolences please visit:
