Claude (Sonny) Barton Nov. 29, 1934 - Feb. 16, 2007 Kern River Family Mortuary-Oildale A Church service will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church, 1421 Wilson Ave., in Oildale, for Sonny Barton, on Sunday, February 25th, at 4:00 p.m., with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 24th, at Kern River Family Mortuary, 1900 N. Chester Ave. Sonny was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great- Grandfather. He was born in Holbrook, Arizona and moved to Bakersfield at age 17 where he began work at McCarthy's Tank & Steel, two years later joining the Boilermakers Union #92. He worked for them as a welder for 42 years. In Sonny's younger years he was a noted local musician and vocalist. He enjoyed playing guitar and bass. Sonny is survived by his loving wife, Dolly, of 32 years; children, Tracy, Rhonda, Troy, Angie, Mike, Julie and Sheri Barton, Laura Thompson, Shree Cross, Robin and Danny Marshall and Paul and Wenny McDonald; including two foster children and many, many friends; 26 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren; sister, Colleen Chapman; mother-in-law, Fern Bane. Sonny was preceded in death by his son, Ricky; sisters, Joanne Pirtle and Clara Weatherly; parents, George and Elizabeth. Sonny trusted Christ as Savior. Thank you Lord for the time we had with him.
