Claudia Stanton Key

04/26/1949 - 06/17/2015 Obituary
Claudia Stanton Key passed Wednesday night the 17th of June at the age of 66, surrounded by loved ones. She lost her battle with breast cancer that she began 12 years ago, that all had thought she had won, when it recurred unexpectedly a few weeks before her passing. Claudia was a proud mother of three sons, a special education teacher and a strong woman with an indomitable spirit. She was constantly optimistic but also was willing to accept what the good Lord gave her. Those who knew her well knew of her good heart and strong resolve, even if she could at times challenge norms and beliefs.
Claudia was born on April 26, 1949 in Bakersfield to Margaret (Stanton) Dye and the late Frank Stanton. She graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1967, attended Whittier College and completed her B.A. in English from Cal State Bakersfield in 1976. She worked at Jim Baker Electrifier in support of the family business through the 1990s. She found a new career she was passionate about in the early 2000s when she earned her special education credential and began working for the Kern County Superintendent of Schools.
She is survived by her sons John Key, Christopher (Heidi) Key and Frank (Anastasia) Stanton Key, five beloved grandchildren, mother Margaret Dye, sister Allene Stanton Krizo, as well as extended family.
The memorial service will be held Friday, July 10 at 2:00 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1314 Oswell Street.
