Claudina "Dina" Garcia-Smith Obituary
Claudina "Dina" Garcia-Smith went to be with Jesus and our Lord on August 17, 2016 with family and friends by her side. Born October 14, 1963, in Bakersfield California, she was the sixth of eight children born to Claudine and Marcello T. Garcia. She graduated from Foothill High School in Bakersfield California. Dina married Rodger Hill in 1984 and together they raised three children, Sean Hill, Laurie Frey and Cristal Marie Hill. On July 30, 2004, Dina married her knight in shining armor, Thomas Smith. Dina worked as a Correctional Officer for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. She was a Teacher's Aide 1 for the Bakersfield City School District. Her passion was volunteering as a Children's Worship Leader and Secretary at Height Street Baptists Church.
Dina is survived by her beloved husband Thomas Smith; brothers, Richard Reyes, Ruben Garcia, Philip Garcia II; sisters, Trudie Mendoza, Marcella "Lollie" Elliott and Francee Garcia-Michael and brother-in-law, Ken Michael. She is also survived by her Grandchildren; Brienne Hill, Dominic Frey, Jaycob Eli Garcia-Smith, Madison Frey, Mason Hill and one on the way. Her grandchildren each had a special name for her such as, Walita, Golita, and Itta.
Visitation will be held at Basham-Hopson Funeral Care (620 Oregon St.) on Tuesday, August 30, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be August 31, 2016 at Height Street Baptist Church (1010 Height St) at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family asks that you wear purple to the services.
Dina will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed but her memory will live on in our hearts forever. For additional information please contact Basham-Hopson Funeral Care at 861-8200.
