Clifford G. Netherton September 12, 1925 - February 2, 2013 Cliff was born on September 12, 1925 in Long Beach, CA. He joined the Navy in 1943 at the age of 17 where he served as a tail gunner in WWII. He was honorably discharged April 2, 1946, moved to Coalinga, CA where he met the love of his life Ruth Jean Clark at a dance at the American Legion Hall. They married October 26,1946 sharing 61 years together. He worked for Shell Oil Company for over 30 years. After retiring, Cliff and Jean owned and operated Jeans Cafe, and later worked the bingo snack bar for Foothill, West and Highland High Schools Athletic Booster Club. From 1977-1983 he coached Bobby Sox Softball and from 1982 - 1985 was the assistant coach at Foothill High School for the girls softball and basketball teams. He touched many young live encouraging and guiding them to be all they could be. Cliff was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed several hunting trips to Colorado, Nevada, and Utah. He was proud to have held the record twice for the largest bass at Lake Isabella in the 1960s. Over the years he said, "I am so fortunate for all of the hunting and fishing memories I have." For 30 years he was a member of the Stockdale Moose Lodge #2178. His favorite days were Taco Tuesdays, Karaoke Sundays and the yearly Night of the Imposters. He enjoyed the camaraderie, conversation, and fun with his fellow members. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; mother, Sarah; and father, Clifford; brothers, Joe and Eddie. He is survived by his four children, Dean and wife Mickey Netherton, Terry and wife Wanda Netherton, Connie and husband Randy Riggs, Lori Neterton and Dea-Anne Wilson; 6 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Cliff was a strong man, who loved his family and enjoyed all of his friends. He often said, "I am the luckiest guy in the world to have the family I have." Visitation for Cliff will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A celebration of life will be held at Stockdale Moose Lodge (905 Stine Road) immediately following the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Jaymie Legan, Dean Netherton, Terry Netherton, Adam Netherton, Robert F. Smith, Jim Hodge, and Don Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Riggs, Adam Araujo, Glen Crowson, Jim Hall, Bill Hall, Shirley Denson, and Glen Holland. A special thank you to Dr. Sonia Kamath M.D. of Kaiser Permanente; Krisi, Denise and Tatiana of Hoffmann Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hoffmann Hospice or to Stockdale Moose Lodge #2178. Dad and Mom are together again "dancing up a storm" having a great time.
