Consuelo (Connie) Cortez-Narez Obituary

Consuelo (Connie) Cortez-Narez was born in Tehachapi on July 31, 1913 and entered Heaven's gates on April 14, 2016. She was the daughter of Santos and Savina Cortez, and in addition to them was preceded in death by a brother, John Cortez and sisters, Angie Ott, Mary Escoto, and Louise Spellman.

Mrs. Narez worked diligently from the time she was 15 years old until she retired at age 85. She loved the social life and had a passion for dancing. Mrs. Narez also had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of Bakersfield. Over the years she became very involved with the church and assisted in many fundraising events. She was known as "The Mother of the Church" to many who knew her.

Mrs. Narez is survived by her son, Alexis Canalez (Pam); 4 grandchildren Kevin Canalez, Erin (Bill) Mosessian, Christian Canalez, and Lauren Canalez; 6 great-grandchildren Austin Mosessian, Nicholas, Hunter, and Britton Canalez, Tyler Frost, and Anistyn Lacher. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at 2-5 p.m. April 21 at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave. in Bakersfield. A rosary will be held 9:30 a.m. April 22 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1515 Baker St., Bakersfield. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held directly following at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Tehachapi Cemetery West Side, 920 Enterprise Way, Tehachapi. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
