Dale Lee Denison Obituary
Dale died at home after spending a beautiful afternoon in his backyard with his wife Phyllis. He was the younger son of Charles and Helen Denison of Bakersfield.
Dale attended local schools and met many lifelong friends early. He played sports throughout his school years and was first string varsity basketball in high school. Dale's teammates remember his "very positive attitude" and "exemplary team focus". He wanted every player to feel good about being on the the team together. Dale also met lifelong friend and business partner, Dean Holloway, when they were in the same third grade class.
After graduation from East High in 1952, Dale pledged ATO (Alpha Tau Omega) fraternity at San Jose State University (SJSU). His fraternity brothers became another group of lifelong friends. Dale worked two summers plowing wheat fields and three summers as a roustabout in the oil field.
While at SJSU, Dale met Jean Munson of Salinas. They were married after Dale graduated in January 1957, with a major in Business Administration. They had two sons, Doug and Eric. After receiving an honorable discharge following his Army Reserve service in Virginia, Dale returned to Bakersfield and began his careers and lifetime passions for the oil industry and stock market.
In 1966, Dale and Dean began what was to be an almost 48 year business partnership of buying properties, fixing them up and renting them out. Since 1984, they, along with ten ATO fraternity brothers and their wives (12 couples) gathered annually somewhere in the eastern Sierras to fish, cook, eat, party and share stories.
Sadly, Dale's wife, Jeannie, passed away in 2006. After Jeannie's passing, Dale's sons and a friend introduced Dale to Phyllis. They were soon married, and spent many happy years together.
One of the projects they shared together was to feed and rescue kittens and cats in Hart Park that others has abandoned. They worked closely with The Cat People (www.TheCatPeople.org) until they retired from that project in 2012. Dale is survived by his wife Phyllis; sons Doug and Eric both of Bakersfield; older brother, Gordon of Walnut Creek; stepsons Mike Hagen of Bakersfield, Barry Hagen of Reno, NV; other family and many faithful friends. His final resting place will be near his parents on a gentle slope at Chapel Lawn of Hillcrest Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 17th, 10:00am at the First Congregational Church, 5 Real Road.
