Dale Stanley Evans Obituary
My wonderful husband Dale Stanley Evans died peacefully at our home in Willow on Sept. 30, 2014. He lost his final battle against cancer after a long and valiant fight.
Dale was born in Bakersfield, California March 25, 1941, to Henry and Mabel Evans. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and served his community as an engineer for the Kern County Fire Department.
Dale enjoyed camping and fishing throughout California, and was happier catching small native trout than ocean fish. His annual fishing trip to the White Mountains was a new adventure with old friends every year. He enjoyed playing golf in his retirement, even making a hole-in-one at Sycamore Canyon Golf Course. He was active in the Bakersfield Elks Lodge and won an award as an Inner Guard. He was a host dad to French and Japanese teenagers and hosted six young ladies from Up with People.
He enjoyed his friends from England who made regular visits for the nostalgia drags at Famoso Raceway. He loved to travel, and besides spending a lot of time in England, he ventured to China and walked on the Great Wall and to Peru to fish for piranha on the mighty Amazon River and wander the ruins of Machu Picchu. He partied in Rio and Paris and dived the second largest barrier reef in the world in Belize. He cruised the Inside Passage, the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera with family and friends. He spent many happy hours in his motorhome traveling throughout Baja, Calif. and driving the famed Al-Can Highway to Alaska where he finally made his home after his wife Jenny wanted to be a dog musher. He welcomed every dog that found its way to the Evans kennel and knew each of them by name. He was enjoying the Alaska life, riding snow machines and learning new skills with his Kubota tractor when his diagnosis of cancer was made.
Dale made new and lasting friends everywhere he went and will be missed, but we will always have happy memories of our time with him.
Dale is survived by his wife Jenny of 33 years, his sisters Ruth Hays of Florida, Dorothy Collari of California and Norma Shaw and husband Joe of Alaska, sister-in-law Marion Ray and husband Pete of England, many nieces and nephews and even more great nieces and nephews. His dog Candi, 38 sled dogs, two cats Sooty and Cinders and Captain the parrot.
Dale was preceded in death by his son Blaine, his parents Henry and Mabel Evans, his brothers-in-law Kenneth Hays and Joe Collari, nephew Scott Shaw and special friends Ed Horvath, Alan Byrd, Jim Haley and Jimmy Bugni. His dogs Pooch, Lady and Sammy and several cats and budgies.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later time.
