Danny Shelton Obituary
Danny L. Shelton, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, died on Wednesday, January 8th at his home in Bakersfield surrounded by loved ones. He was 78 years old.
Danny was born in rural Illinois to Pearle Francis Ford and Carl Shelton and moved to Bakersfield in middle school. He graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1953. After graduation he was a firefighter for the Bakersfield Fire Department and a part time bartender, until he joined Pacific Gas and Electric in 1960. He worked at PG&E in the service department for 33 years. He met and then married Emily Jean Church in 1961. Danny and Jeanne started a family in 1968 and raised two daughters, Leslie and Vicki. Danny was a very active man, always gardening, playing tennis at Laurel Glen Tennis Club or golfing. Spending time with family and friends was his pastime. He was an attentive family man, dedicated to his brood of girls, including his wife, daughters, and five grandaughters. He will be remembered for his laugh, his smile, his great sense of humor and his love of sports.
Danny is survived by wife E. Jean Shelton, daughters Leslie Shelton Bergman of Concord, MA, and Victoria Shelton Gilbert of Oakland, CA, son-in-laws Robert Bergman and Evan Gilbert and five adoring grandaughters; Zella, Iris and Faye Bergman and Simone and Elise Gilbert. He is also survived by sister Janice Casey and brother Carl Wesley Shelton, both of Bakersfield.
A private family gathering was held on Saturday, January 11th. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Hoffman Hospice.
