Darrell Fletcher Obituary
Darrell B. Fletcher 1940 - 2013 Coach Darrell Brent Fletcher quietly passed away surrounded by loved ones on November 6, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, teacher, and coach. He will be missed beyond words. Darrell deeply loved his family, friends, former students and athletes. He had a huge heart, strong spirit, spoke his mind, and fought for his underdog and against injustice. Life lessons from Darrell: 1. Embrace love and demonstrate in your actions because they speak louder than words. 2. Give to those less fortunate than yourself, but do not seek praise or acknowledgement from them because in doing so, the good deeds lose their meaning. Darrell was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Lynn Fletcher; his brother, Douglas Kent Fletcher; his parents, Dale and Fern Fletcher; and first wife, Lataine Hughes Fletcher. He is survived by his wife, Diane Fletcher; daughter, Pamela Fletcher Alvarez; son, David Fletcher; son-in-law, Carlos Alvarez; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Fletcher; grandchildren, Emily, Ashley, and Alyssa Alvarez, and Garrett and Jillian Fletcher; his sister, Kathy Fletcher Lamond; brother-in-law, John Lamond; and nieces and nephews, Craig Lamond, Paige Lamond West, Joel Fletcher, Mark Fletcher, Natalie Fletcher Bank, and Heather Fletcher. "Anyone can give up; it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's TRUE STRENGTH." A chapel service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Celebration of Life Center, 2739 Panama Lane, Building D. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Darrell's name to either the Coyote Club, P.O. Box 9865 Bakesfield, CA 93389 or Bakersfield Homeless Shelter,1600 Truxtun Ave. Bakersfield, CA 93305.
