Dathene Roland Obituary

Dathene Rae Roland April 14 1941 - November 4, 2010 Dathene Rae Roland was born in San Angelo, TX to Richard and Lillian Hughes. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby and son Darren; her parents; brother, James Hughes; and sister, Helen Olsen. Dathene moved from Texas to Arvin, CA in April 1952. She lived in and around Bakersfield most of her adult life except for a few years after retirement, where she thought the great state of Texas was calling her back. This lasted less than two years because she missed her grandchildren, friends and the sidewalks of Bakersfield. Dathene was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, who enjoyed all types of games, had a rich sense of humor and was fun. She was known occasionally to share her strong political opinion with anyone who would listen. She will be deeply missed by all. Dathene is survived by her son, Perry Roland and wife, Susan of Anaheim Hills, CA; sister, Dorothy Denney and brother-in-law Chuck of Canyon Lake, TX; grandchildren, Jacob Roland of Brooklyn, NY; Zachery Roland of Corvallis, OR; Amanda Roland of San Diego, CA; and Kyle Roland of Bakersfield. The memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 8th, 2:00 p.m., at Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley Baptist Church. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Aunt Dathene was one of the funnest people i knew. WHen we were kids she would sneak us cookies and candy after my dad said no. When we would visit she would always play UNO with me. Her and my uncle Bobby always made you feel welcome in their home. I will miss her. I will send prayers out to her grandbabies for strength and faith during this time.

I met Dathene when I was 16 years old. Dathene was like a 2nd mother to me. I loved her very much and will miss her even more. My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family.

In the 1980's and early 90's I can still remember having those Bakersfield visits over at my Sister's place and all the laughter and activity you would expect in a house full of kids (all first cousins) with Grandma present. My prayers go out to the family, especially Perry and my two nephews during this difficult time.

Dathene was absolutely our favorite aunt. She definitely had strong views and wasn't shy about sharing them. She deeply loved her family and will be missed. We Love You

Dathene will truly be missed. I can remember the days out at the lake with Bobby and Dathene when I was a kid like it was yesterday. She was a great friend to my grandma, Sue McGee, over the years. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this difficult time.
