David Charles Cosyns

1947 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
David Charles Cosyns Obituary

David Charles Cosyns was born on September 28, 1947, in Long Beach, CA to Anna Watte Cosyns and Charles Cosyns. He passed away peacefully on March 5, 2016, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center with his wife and children by his side. Dave lived a full life and was fortunate to have family, friends, and a career that he truly loved. Anyone who was lucky enough to spend time with him knew the incredible kindness, warmth, and humor he possessed.

Dave developed his love of farming from a very young age when he and his brother, Bob, worked alongside their father and Uncle Albert Cosyns in the family's farming operation in Orange County. The family moved to Tulare when Dave was 15 where he continued to work on the family farm and participated in agriculture programs such as FFA. He graduated from Tulare Western High School in 1965 and went on to College of the Sequoias before earning his Bachelor's Degree from Fresno State College.

Upon his graduation, Dave began a 45 year long career with the J.G. Boswell Company at their ranch in Corcoran. He was respected and loved by everyone who worked with him and for him; his fairness, genuine character, and vast knowledge of the industry made him the consummate farmer.

During college, Dave was introduced to Nancy Cardoza and, following a six year courtship, they were married on August 21, 1976. In 1982, Dave, Nancy and their two daughters moved to Bakersfield when he was named Manager of Kern County Operations. Four years later, they welcomed a son and have enjoyed raising their three children in Bakersfield since then. Dave was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family. He spent countless hours watching the kids play volleyball, baseball, and golf. Over the years, Dave has enjoyed numerous hobbies including aviation, hunting, skeet shooting, cycling, and golf. Most recently, he enjoyed the role of Grandpa to five boys and one girl, his "favorite granddaughter."

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Nancy; daughter Andrea Ganzinotti, her husband Eddie, and their children Gianna, Edward, Baron, and Weston; daughter Alaina Beeman, her husband Mark, and their children Walker and Beckett; son Jarrett and his wife Lindsey; brother Robert and his wife Noreen; uncle Albert Cosyns; mother-in-law, Alice M. Cardoza; four sisters-in-law, Myra Ratcliffe (Tim); Pamela Rush (Dale); Cynthia Cardoza; and Lisa Cheney (Richard); one brother-in-law, Anthony Cardoza (Christine) and many treasured cousins, nieces, and nephews from both sides of his family. In peaceful resting, he joins his father Charles, mother Anna, and numerous close relatives.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff in the ICUs at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. A special thanks to Dr. Bob Laughlin for his tireless efforts and compassionate care.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 7100 Stockdale Hwy on Saturday, March 12th at 10:00am preceded by a recitation of the Rosary at 9:30am. Graveside service and reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave's memory may be made to the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 2401, Bakersfield, CA 93303.
