Dawson Leroy Sims November 4, 1925 - September 8, 2012 Dawson Leroy Sims was born November 4, 1925 in Gainsville, Texas. His family later moved to Buttonwillow, California. In 1944, he enlisted in the Army, and he served until 1946. Soon after he returned, he met Leona Sims, and they later married and had two children, Larry Sims and Sharon Sims-Unruh. Years later they divorced, and he then met Joan Sims, whom he shared the next 40 years with. Dawson was the owner of Bryant Radiator for 40 years. He also was a proud recruit of the first BPD Reserves. He was an active member of The Eagles, The Elks, and The Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing the lottery, and even had a chance to spin the "Big Wheel." He was a proud grandparent of Katrina Sims-Carter, Scott Sims, and Jennifer Unruh-Miller. Later in life, Dawson enjoyed playing cards and going to his weekly breakfast or lunch with his granddaughter Jennifer. Services will be held at the National Cemetery on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 1:15p.m. www.bakersfield.com/obits
