Deborah Mish Garton, born August 8, 1956, died August 20, 2014 after a short illness. Debbie leaves husband Deacon Donald Garton, daughter Ainslee Fulton, father Ray Mish, brother David Mish, sister-in-law Karen Mish, brother-in-law Alan Garton and sister-in-law Karen Garton, plus many cousins from all over the country.
Debbie devoted her life to church ministry, working in parishes in Bakersfield and in Washington State. Debbie also owned a flower shop and worked in her father's funeral business prior to her marriage to Don in 1995.
Debbie has worked at Our Lady of Perpetual Church since 1996. Debbie worked in all aspects of ministry, from children to high school youth, to training and coordinating altar servers, lectors, and Eucharistic ministers. Debbie became nationally certified by the Alliance for the Certification of Lay Ecclesial Ministers as a Pastoral Associate in 2013, being one of the first two lay minsters in the United States to receive this distinction. She was a Dodger fan, a collector of art, and enjoyed movies and plays.
Visitation for Debbie will be at the family funeral home, Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave, Bakersfield, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Wednesday, August 27th. A vigil will be held Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 124 Columbus Ave, Bakersfield, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The funeral Mass will commence at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 28th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, with entombment to follow immediately at Hillcrest Memorial Park Glass Mausoleum 9101 Kern Canyon Rd, Bakersfield. A reception will be held beginning at 1:00 PM at Woolgrowers, 630 East 19th Street Bakersfield.
In lieu of flowers, if you so desire and in her memory, make donations to O.L.P.H. Pastoral Ministry, 124 Columbus Blvd. Bakersfield 93305, that would please her, and from our Family Thank You so much for your thoughts and Prayers.
