Delfina Ashley Obituary
Delfina Ashley 12/24/1951-7/1/2013 Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on July 1, 2013, at her home in Bakersfield. She was born in El Paso, Texas to Fortino and Maria Ortiz, December 24, 1951. She leaves behind her sweetheart and caring husband of 26 years, Anthony Ashley, daughter Jennifer Sapien (Nick), sons Stephen A. Ashley and Michael R. Ashley, and grandchildren Delaina Alonso, Mathew Alonso and Gavin L. Ashley. Upon graduating from Delano High School in 1970, she went to work for Swan Insurance Agency for 18 years as a California State Certified Licensed Agent. She was actively involved in the Ideal Club of Delano for 15 years and a past president serving two terms. She also enjoyed playing tennis with her tennis buddies at Laurel Glen Inshape Tennis Club and collecting miniature ceramic teapots of which she had amassed over 300 of them over the years. Delfina's greatest passion was family and love of life. She was a three-time cancer survivor and did not allow the disease to dictate her activities and enjoyment in life. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by friends and family. She is survived by her sisters Mary Lou Escarciga (Louie) of Texas, Sarah Manzano of Bakersfield, Alicia Angulo (Manuel) of Bakersfield, Helen Ortiz of Delano, Ida Marin (Joe) of Bakersfield, and brothers Tony Ortiz (Margaret) of Bakersfield, Dan Ortiz (Sandee Lee) of Elk Grove, Richard Ortiz of Auburn, Raymond Ortiz (Felicia) of Bakersfield, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her youngest sister Laura Ortiz. Funeral services and mass will be held at St Philip the Apostle Church (7100 Stockdale Highway Bakersfield Ca. 93309) on July 8, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Southwest Greenlawn.
