Don Lloyd Reading

Don Lloyd Reading Obituary
Don Lloyd Reading of Bakersfield passed away on April 25th in a sudden accident. Don was born on July 7th 1944 to Lloyd A. Reading and Lucille (Eastberg) Reading. After high school he entered the Air Force, serving 3 tours in Vietnam.
Upon an honorable discharge he returned home for a short while, working for National Cash Register Co. Fate called him to San Francisco, and he fell in love with the city. He lived there from 1966-2004, where he had 3 children with Sheila Beatty.
He also developed a passion for fishing, digging for crystals and fossils, gardening, truffle hunting, gold mining and camping. Don was the first person to receive Lifetime Teaching Credentials from California Community Colleges for American Indian Silversmithing, and by the end of his time he was a Master Silversmith. In 2004 he moved back home to be with his family. He loved taking them out on trips while recanting stories from past adventures. He also became an integral member of the local rock club and shared his stories and knowledge with them too.
Don delighted everyone around him with humor. He was a man to whom the word selfishness did not exist. He truly believed, "It was better to give than to receive", and it shined through to anyone who knew him.
He is survived by his children: Cristina Reading, Janis Burkett, Donald Reading, his sister: Anna Reading-Carey and brother in law Bobby Carey, his son in law William Burkett and grandson in law Gopal Metro, his grandchildren: Angel Metro, Mesha, Forrest, Wallace, Ryan, Jason and Murin Burkett, his nephews and niece Walker, James, Jim and Diana Murrell, Mike Martin, and his great grandchildren Kailasa, Anastasia and Adrian.
Funeral services will be held May 7th, from 4-8pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park And Mortuary.
