Donald Francis Tillman

1940 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
Donald Francis Tillman Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that his family announces the passing of their beloved "Poppa," Donald Francis Tillman, 75, of Bakersfield on Sunday, May 31, 2015. Don was born February 13, 1940 in Bakersfield to Theodore and Lavilla (Herman) Tillman. He graduated from Garces Memorial High School in 1957; and from CSUB in 1977 (B.A) and 1991 (M.A.). On January 26, 1963, he married Yvonne Ann Anchordoquy in Bakersfield. After honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Don served the Bakersfield community for 20 years as a CHP patrol officer. He then earned his elementary school teaching credential and eventually became Assistant Superintendent at Virginia Avenue Elementary School before his retirement from education in 2005.
Don was a consummate patriarch and family man. He loved his family immensely, and they always came first for him. He made himself available and willing to help out family members and support them in any way needed. His strength, unconditional love, courage, tenacity, loyalty and strong presence will be greatly missed by his family. While there is much pain in their hearts, they are comforted in knowing that he is resting peacefully.
Don is survived by his wife, Yvonne (Anchordoquy) Tillman and his two daughters, Jennifer (Tillman) Brown and her husband Mark Brown and Julie Tillman and her husband Steven Seybold of Davis, California; his mother, Lavilla Tillman; four grandchildren, Gerald Brookston and Brandi Church and Emily and Natalie Seybold of Davis; his sister-in-law Lorraine Anchordoquy; his sister Rosemary (Tillman) Delfino and brother-in-law Kenneth Delfino; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Frank Tillman.
A service celebrating Don's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8 at Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest, Celebration of Life Center, 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield, California 93313. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charitable organization of Bakersfield (
