Donald Joe Silvius Obituary
Don was born in Kingman Kansas to Henry and Gladys Silvius he entered Southern California Bible College in Santa Ana where he met his late wife Jean Abel, Tukwila Washington. Don graduated and moved to Bakersfield to serve as minister of music, Associate Pastor, Youth Pastor at several of Assembly of God Churches he was very active singing in the choir and playing his trombone in the orchestras. Don ultimately graduated from Fresno State and achieved his teaching credential and continued with obtaining his Masters in Education while teaching for the Standard School District for 30 + years. He loved his job ultimately serving as Supervisor of Special Services which included counseling, special education and advocating for any student to stay in school and get an education. Don was a Special Education Adjunct professor for CSUB, Fresno State Extension and Cal Lutheran.
Don served on many committees serving the education process and community service, he also served as president of the North of the River Lions, North of the River Sanitation District, Retired Teachers Association. Don was very active with One Legacy organ donor education traveling many times to the Rose Parade and helping on floats. Don enjoyed copying music for the Bakersfield College Renegade Marching Band.
As a father dad really enjoyed camping and fishing in the Fish Creek area in the Sierras and yearly family trips to Oildale Hawaii (Pismo Beach) in the legendary tear-drop trailer and International Travel all. Later on dad and mom enjoyed trips to Cayucos to spend time in their Golden Nugget travel trailer.
Don is survived by his daughter Laurie Silvius of Bakersfield; Son Steve (Pam) of Bakersfield; son Jon (Lori) of Paso Robles; son Brian (Diane) of Sand Point, ID; grandson Matt of Bakersfield; granddaughter Jessica of Paso Robles; grandson Mark of Seattle, WA; grandson Chris of Paso Robles; grandson Eric of Sand Point, ID. His Generosity and outgoing personality will be missed by all who knew him. After 15 years, he is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife Jean and his parents Rev H.E. and Gladys Silvius.
The memorial service will be held at Basham Funeral Home 3312 Niles Street at 11:00 A.M. A reception following the memorial service will be held at Kern City Town hall 1003 Pebble Beach Drive 93309.
