Donald Lee "Pop" Crider Obituary
Pop passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on June 26th, 2014 at the age of 81. He was born June 1, 1933 in Dinuba, CA to Aaron and Genevieve Crider. He moved to Bakersfield at the age of 15. He married June Doll in 1955 they had 4 sons. He later married JoJo and enjoyed 23 years of happiness before his passing. Pop worked for Ritchfield Oil for 18 years, and later for Sanford, Semchak & Spreights for 10 years. After a short retirement he went back to work at KMC as he had the "old school knowledge" of refrigeration. He again later retired for the final time. He was a proud member of the Local 460 Plumbers & Steamfitters.
He was a Korean War Veteran, serving from 1949-1953. It is in the Army that he was introduced to the sport of boxing. He eventually became a professional boxer and spent many a night at Strelich Stadium in the 50's and 60's. He had a true love of the sport, and coached many Jr. boxers, including his four sons. He became an avid race fan long before it was televised. He loved the central coast, hunting for Abalone, clamming and most of all fishing. He had a great sense of humor, loved his family, his dogs, a good fish story, Thirsty Thursday's and a cold Budweiser.
Pop you will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and his sister. Pop leaves behind his wife JoJo, his four sons: Jeff (Laura), Mike (Sheena), Chris (Kimberly), Donnie (Corey). Five Stepchildren Jill (Chip) Walls, Scott Cantrell, Shawn (Jeanne) Cantrell, Jodi (Hank) Demarah, Leighanne Spicer, 11 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren, 2 nieces and numerous close friends.
Services to be held, Tuesday, July 8th, 9:00a.m. at the Bakersfield \National Cemetery.
