Donald Ray Adams Obituary
Donald Ray Adams was born in Richmond, CA, to Thomas P. Adams and Violet Laverne (Brendle) Adams on August 28, 1943. He passed away in Tehachapi, CA, on August 16, 2015, at the age of 71.
Don attended North High School and Bakersfield College. After serving in the Air Force, he returned to Bakersfield and began working in the oil fields, eventually starting up his own oil field construction business, finally finishing out his career with KSI Enterprises.
Don loved bowling and especially loved playing golf with his buddies, even sponsoring his own golf tournaments through the years. He loved singing karaoke and was fondly known as the "King of Karaoke." His favorite pastimes were watching golf, football, and NASCAR. He enjoyed watching "B" (for Bad) movies with his daughter, Amanda. He also enjoyed going to the casinos. He was a wonderful cook and hosted many special holiday dinners for family and friends. His Christmas parties and Halloween parties were memorable. He lived his life with courage and fortitude which reflected in his four-year battle with his illness. He had many longtime loyal and cherished friends who stood by him through good times and bad times.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Violet Adams, and his brother, Jerry Adams. He is survived by his sister, Linda Adams Jones; his stepmother, Thelma Adams; his children, Marci Adams Merel (Pepe), Richard Adams (Lynda), and Amanda Adams Mahar (Jack). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Reid Adams, Colby Adams, Isabel Merel, Mateo Merel, and Alec Mahar.
The family wishes to thank Hoffmann Hospice for their compassionate care of Don during his illness. We also want to thank Don's very dear friends Gary and Jenny for being there when Don most needed it; and much love and thanks to our cousin, Sharon, for coming out from Georgia twice to help with his care.
Graveside services will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, CA, on Monday, August 24th, at 10:00 a.m. Wood Family Funeral Service has been entrusted with his care. For condolences please visit
