Doris Iva (Phillips) Ashley 1923 - 2012 Born May 20, 1923, to Noel Webster Phillips and Iva Pearl Phillips, in Burkburnette, Texas. Doris went to be with her Lord Jesus, on her 89th birthday, May 20, 2012, while surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband Stroud Pleasant Ashley, son Stroud Eugene Ashley, and daughter Sandra Diane Ashley. She is survived by her son Philip Ashley, son Melvin Ashley and spouse Glenda, daughter Bonnie Ashley, eight grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Her family moved to Bakersfield in 1937, where she attended Bakersfield High School, graduating in 1941. Married to Stroud Pleasant Ashley in 1942, she was a homemaker and secretary for Ashley Roofing. She was involved in PTA, a member of the African Violet Society, and Queen Mary's Court at the Rasmussen Center. She also loved arts and crafts, doing needlepoint, crocheting, ceramics, and sewing. Family meant a lot to Doris and Stroud, spending many vacations camping in the mountains and along the Kern River. Doris had a competitive side, competing in domino tournaments, playing pool, competing in African Violet shows. She later spent years judging African Violet shows. Later years found Doris involved with Prime Timers at Valley Bible Fellowship, playing pool at the Rasmussen Center, and taking trips to see family members. Doris will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother, a beautiful lady, and deeply loved. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25th, from 4-7 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd. Graveside services will be Saturday May 26th, at 9:30 a.m., also at Greenlawn. www.bakersfield.com/obits
