Doris Johnson Obituary
Doris Hickman Johnson, daughter of William A. and Bertha Wilson Hickman was born July 21, 1921 in Kiowa, OK and peacefully went to be with her heavenly father on October 15, 2014. She was the youngest of 6 children. Raised in Kiowa until 1937 when she moved to Bakersfield to live with her sister. She then met the love of her life, Herschel Johnson. They were married in Las Vegas on July 7, 1941. Moved to Long Beach, CA when Herschel joined the Coast Guard from 1942-1945. During the war Doris worked for Douglas Aircraft. Returning to Bakersfield in 1945 she went to work at Standard School (1957) as an Admin. Secretary in Oildale where they raised their two sons Randy and Ross. She retired in 1979. Before and after retirement they traveled the world with family and friends. They moved to Kern City and after Herschel's passing in 1996 Doris moved to Carriage House Estates.
Doris loved the Lord. She became a member of First Baptist Church (now Olive Drive Church) in 1947. She belonged to the Belden Circle. She loved to entertain especially at Thanksgiving when all the kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews from all over would travel to Bakersfield to enjoy the holiday together. A lot of wonderful memories were made. She had a knack for growing beautiful flowers. It was always fun going to Gram's house.
Doris is survived by her two sons, Randy Johnson and wife Sharon; Ross Johnson and wife Jane; three grandsons, Brian Johnson, Brett Johnson and Ross Johnson Jr. and wife Mary; one granddaughter, Jill Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Joel, Daniel and Raelynn Johnson; sister-in-law Clarice Camille of Clovis, CA; sister-in-law Carolyn Smith of Hurst, Texas; brother-in-law Don of Texas and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herschel, her two sisters, Mildred (Brook) Eggers and Eva Trickey and three brothers Cliff, Carl and Jack Hickman; and nephews Howard Trickey and Kirk Hickman.
Thank you to our family and friends for your prayers and support. Thank you to the staff at Carriage House Estates, Hoffmann Hospice and to the owners and staff at Aracadia Gardens who made our mom so comfortable and Tim Kounter for your caring guidance.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please send donations to , Hoffmann Hospice or .
