Dorothy Barnes Hunt Obituary
Dorothy Barnes Hunt May 6, 1928 to September 14, 2013 Our Mom passed away Saturday afternoon at age 85 from complications with C. Diff. She was born in Taft, CA to Raymond Watson Barnes and Nellie Louella Barnes. After graduation from Taft High School, she moved to Bakersfield to work for Kern Medical Center and later for the Juvenile and Adult Probation Departments where she was appointed a Deputy County Clerk of Kern County Superior Court. She met and married Loren Harold Thiessen. They had 3 daughters, Kathy, Patti and Karen. Mom was an amazingly resilient woman who raised 3 daughters by herself while working full time for Kern County. She never failed to prepare a hot breakfast for her girls before she left for work or prepare a special Sunday dinner- which was always eaten at the table. She was an avid reader, loved to cook and try new dishes (collecting copious recipes as we later discovered). As she became sick and more frail, she renewed her love for classic movies and never turned down any sweet treats or milkshakes. She will be missed and remembered as being quietly strong and a mother who fiercely loved her children. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Hunt, middle daughter Patti A. Bittle, longtime companion Jim Bittle who died last year and younger sister Eileen Melva Fitchette. She is survived by daughter Kathy L. Thomas and fiance Michael Rogers, daughter Karen J. Kelty and fiance Larry Elman, grandchildren Teri Ann Bittle and David Bittle, and middle brother Bill Barnes. We would like to thank the caregivers at North Pointe Village for taking such good care of Mom these last few months and also to the people at Hoffman Hospice who were there as well the last 2 weeks of her life. www.bakersfield.com/obits
