Dorothy Larma May Obituary
Dorothy Beverly Larma was born in Emporia, Kansas on August 9, 1920. Her parents, Mr. & Mrs C.L. Larma and children Robert and Dorothy moved to Bakersfield in early 1923. Dorothy graduated from Kern County Union High School in the Class of 1938. Dotty married Cy May October 4, 1940. On December 8, 1941, Cy joined the Navy and they moved to San Diego. Dotty worked at Consolided Aircraft as a Wing Driller. In 1950 Cy & Dotty opened the first of four 'Cy's Coffee Shops' in Bakersfield on 24th just off Chester. In 1957 Dotty managed the coffee shop at the old Bakersfield Inn on south Union. In the 1960s she became the manager of the Dinning Room and Coffee Shop at the Hill House on Truxton until she retired in 1987. In 1996 Dotty moved to Oceanside, CA to help raise her great-grand-daughter, Tabitha. Dotty enjoyed oil painting and dancing and reading. In Bakersfield Dotty was a member of the Bakersfield Racquet Club & the Business Womans Club. In Oceanside she was a member of the Oceanside Optimist Club and New Song Community Church. Dotty passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at home in Oceanside.
Loved ones who have passed: Dorothy's father, C.L. Larma, mother Rika Larma, brother Robert Larma, sister-in-law Ester Larma, sister-in-law Darlene Larma and grandson Joe Goetschalckx.
Surviving loved ones are: her brother Jack Larma of Bakersfield, his daughters and their families.
Daughter Carole May, grand-daughter Beverly Goetschalckx, great-grand son Mark Joseph Baldon, and great grand-daughter Tabitha Goetschalckx all of Oceanside, CA.
Son Richard May and his wife Shirley of Nipmo, CA, their daughters: Misty Covington, her husband Brian and their daughters Briannna 10 & Brooklyn 6 of Valencia, CA. And, Annmarie Moreno, her husband Arron, their son Lincoln 3 and daughter Delaney 8 months of Santa Clarita, CA.
Also, niece Gloria (May) Spatafore of Clovis, CA, Betty (May) Fields of Vincennes, IN, nephew Buzzy May, niece Ginger(Larma) Hughes, nephew Jim Larma, niece Linda Larma & niece Jackie (Larma) Meyers all of Bakersfield.
There will be a 'Celebration of Life' in the late spring in Bakersfield.
A 'Celebration of Life' will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 1 to 3 pm at the New Song Community Church, 3985 Mission Ave, Oceanside Ca. 92058
