Doug passed away in the arms of his family at the age of 55 after a short battle with cancer. Doug was born and raised in Bakersfield. He attended Christ the King parochial school, Standard Middle School, graduated from Garces Memorial High School in 1978, and attended Bakersfield College, where he was ASB President in 1993.
Doug was the safety manager at MTS Solutions, Inc. of Bakersfield. He was a member of the Bakersfield chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers and served on their executive board. He also worked at California Safety Training Corporation and Channel 17, KGET, as the assignment desk editor for many years. In his youth, he worked for Westchester TV, American Fence, Sunnyside Pools and B-Rock radio station.
Doug made many lifelong friends, playing darts weekly and camping yearly with the "Dart Boys". He played the guitar and made music with friends on a weekly basis. He loved woodworking and was an accomplished carver.
Doug was a good son, a great friend, a doting father and a loving husband. He was universally loved by dogs and babies, and the feeling was mutual.
He is survived by his parents, Elizabeth (Tiny) Patrick, William and Susan Patrick, his brothers, Daniel (Dianna), Dennis, (Linda), Donald and David (Melissa), his wife, Sharon, daughters Rebecca, Amanda and Allison, grandchildren Caleb and Arianna.
A Memorial Mass will be held on March 20, 4 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1800 Bedford Way, Bakersfield, CA 93308. Celebration of life dinner will be held in the social hall at 5:30 p.m. after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Garces Memorial High School student tuition scholarship fund.
