Dovie Jean McDaniel Horton January 13, 1930 - October 3, 2012 Dovie Jean Horton, loving mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012. Dovie was born on January 13, 1930 in Kinta, Oklahoma to Otis and Edna Powell McDaniel. In 1934 the family headed west. After attending grammar school in Earlimart, they moved to Delano where she attended Delano High School. Dovie was a cheerleader and a Harvest Holiday Queen contestant. After graduating High School in 1947, she went to work at First Western Bank, which later became United California Bank, in Delano. She married her High School sweetheart, Donald Roy Horton, in August of 1948. She continued to work at the bank and raise their three children. In 1975, her and her sister, Wanda Guerber, opened their own business, Delano Escrow Co., Inc. They sold the business in 1993 to Chicago Title Company and continued to work there until late 1995. After a brief year of retirement, Dovie relocated to Bakersfield and went back to work for Chicago Title Company until late 2005. Dovie has been a resident of Glenwood Gardens the last six years. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Donald Horton, her father, Otis McDaniel, and brother-in-law Fred Guerber. She is survived by her three children, Jana Furman (John), Brad Horton and Steve Horton (Siobhan), her sister Wanda Guerber, her mother, Edna Harp, her two beautiful grandchildren, Andrew and Madeline Horton, and her "knight in shining armor", Dudley Steele. Dovie will be missed by her family, friends, and by all the staff at Glenwood Gardens who called her "Miss Dovie". Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9th, from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Greenlawn Mortuary. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Boulevard in Bakersfield at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you make a donation to
