Edith (Fortner) Mudford Obituary
A celebration of Edith's life will be held on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Chapel, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Graveside services will immediately follow.
Edith was born on September 21, 1926 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to John and Verde Fortner. She moved to California in her twenties and never left. However, she remained a true country girl at heart and shared her love of country music with her family. Edith married Hollice in 1949 and they made their home in Bakersfield. She was a loving mother to Dean and Deanna as well as their friends. Being a Grandmother was one of her biggest joys in life. Edith entertained all her grandchildren and their friends with her songs and silly games. Her laugh and slap on your back was her trademark along with being the world's best back scratcher!
Edith is preceded in death by 8 of her 10 siblings and her parents, John and Verde Fortner. She is succeeded in life by her husband of 64 years, Hollice; her two children: Dean and Deanna (Dan) Araujo; her 7 grandchildren: Danny (Sarah) Araujo, Dustin (Sarah) Araujo, DeEtte (Tommy) Stobert, Deedra (Bryan) Watson, Dean (Schandy) Mudford, Ryan Mudford, and Cameron Mudford; 6 great-grandchildren; and her two sisters, Dorothy Ousley and Martha Simmons.
Edith will be greatly missed by her family and will be forever in our hearts.
