Edna Alice Thompson passed away in Bakersfield on August 1, 2014 at the age of 89. She was born to Michael George Grommesh and Emma Gertrude Nelson on March 8, 1925 in Wheatland, ND. She was united in marriage to Harry Francis Thompson February 16, 1945 in Norfolk, VA.
Edna worked in Taft as a teller at Crocker Bank and as a deli cook at Safeway until it closed. Edna was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church participating in church activities and the Altar Society. She enjoyed meeting and greeting friends. She always had a smile and good word for everyone.
Edna is predeceased by her parents and loving husband. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Beverly (Albert) Bartek, Arlo (Linda) Thompson, Guy Thompson, Denise Johnson, Mona (Robert) Grant. Holding her in memory are grandchildren (great grandchildren): Robert -Brandie Keys (Abbie, Shelbie and Bailey), Frank Keys (Erika and Tristian),Gregg Thompson (Sarah and Roy), Mandy Thompson (Christopher and Tamia), Jeffrey-Joanna Grant, Crystal Grant, David-Jessica Grant (Macy, Drew, Abbi, and Bryn), Dawn-Dean Steinlage(Carl, Thomas, Phillip, and Rachel), Cory Johnson (Trinity and Amanda), Jennifer Burden (Brianna)(Cody), Alice-Luis Scalela (Lucia). Edna is survived by her brother Ray (Judy) Grommesh, sister Dorothy (Jack) McBride and sister Jan Fiebelkorn along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at The HallMark Residential Home and the Summit Hills residential home in Bakersfield for our mother's comfortable accommodations during her stay. We greatly appreciate the tender care given by the nurses and staff at Hoffmann Hospice and Glenwood Respite during our mother's last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Edna's name to Father Flanagan's Girls and Boys Town, P.O. Box 6000, Boys Town, NE 68010.
