Elaine Bierlein Obituary
Elaine Margaret Bierlein passed away peacefully at her sister's home in Santa Rosa, Ca. on November 9, 2014. Elaine was born in East Aurora, NY January 14, 1943 to Eldon and Margaret Greenfield. She completed her elementary and high school education in Toronto, Ontario, Canada prior to her nurses training at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Canada.
Elaine spent part of her 40 years in nursing as a Courier Nurse for the Santa Fe Railway Co. travelling the L.A.-Chicago-S.F. route before moving to Bakersfield in 1969. She worked at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital/Surgery until 2005. In retirement Elaine was an active volunteer with Guild House Restaurant, Community Reading Project, 60 + Club, Golden Empire Gleaners and a continuing member of Model A, Model T Ford clubs, Parkside Church and Order of Eastern Star. She served on the Levan Institute for Lifelong Learning committee at Bakersfield College. Elaine was fortunate to travel extensively in Canada, the U.S. and many parts of the world.
She led a full and wonderful life filled with joyful connecting and curiosity. She is preceded in death by her dear husband Bob Bierlein of Bakersfield, both parents and many loving friends and relatives to welcome her to her Lord's prepared place. Elaine will be missed by her surviving loved ones sister, Marsha Greenfield & brother-in-law Peter LaForce , step-daughters Holly Bierlein & Carrol Holdsworth , nephews Alexander and Evan, and dear Aunt Norma Dixon She has many dear Canadian cousins and loving friends from childhood. Elaine has touched hearts deeply in Bakersfield, coast to coast and past to present. She will be lovingly remembered for her caring personality, grace, beauty and strength of spirit and belief.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Elaine at Parkside Church, 2515 Church Ave. Bakersfield on Saturday, November 22 at 12 noon. There will be a second celebration at a later date in Meaford, Ontario, Canada. If desired, donations may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society for Defeat GBM Research.
