Elardio Larry V. Negrete Obituary
Elardio "Larry" V. Negrete April 2, 1929 - August 24, 2013 Elardio Negrete, Larry to his friends and family, was born April 2, 1929 in Los Angeles. He passed from this life with his family gathered around him on August 24, 2013 in Bakersfield. Larry was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend to many. Larry moved with his parents Ben Negrete and Guadalupe Garcia to Bakersfield as an infant and lived in Bakersfield the rest of his life. His working life spanned over 55 years, beginning at City Mercantile Company in Bakersfield in the early 1940s. He demonstrated the diligence and faithfulness that were a part of his character. Larry also learned to drive a truck when he was 12 years old, a skill he used in subsequent work with his own waste disposal business, then with Daigh and Stewart, and finally with DA Brown Crane and Trucking until his retirement in April 1999. He was also a skilled diesel mechanic and crane operator. Larry loved helping people. He was a volunteer with Make a Wish Foundation, Gleaners and Road to Recovery for the American Cancer Society as a driver. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie 93 of Bakersfield and was one of the first inductees to its Hall of Fame. If you frequented the Eagles you would have seen him there serving beans with a big smile. Larry was an example to all, with friendliness, quite wisdom, love for others and sense of humor. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Guadalupe. He is also survived by his brothers Andrew Negrete, Johnnie Negrete and Alex Negrete; sisters Connie Martinez, Isabel Ontiveros and Sheila Reyes; sons Rubin Negrete and Eddie Villegas; daughters Victoria Sanford, Gloria Krauter and Sophia Cortez; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. S.M. Alam, Dr. Edward Nichols and the staff and physicians at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion for dad and the family. Recitation of the rosary is Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield, CA. The mass will be Friday, August 30, 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 900 H Street, Bakersfield, CA. The reception will follow at the Eagles Aerie 93, 1718 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA from 11:00 - 3:00 p.m.. www.bakersfield.com/obits
