Eleanor Marie Crain

1923 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
Eleanor Marie Crain March 17, 1923 - October 31, 2012 Eleanor "Marie" was born to Jepp and Neva Glenn on March 17, 1923 in Visalia, California. She passed away in Bakersfield, California on October 31, 2012 at the age of 89 years. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at age 11 and always relied on His grace, love, and mercy throughout her life. The family moved to Dade County, Missouri, where Marie met James M. Crain. They dated while in high school and married on August 6, 1942. Shortly thereafter, James entered active military duty in WWII. Marie moved to Exeter, CA for employment opportunities and to be closer to her family. Marie kept herself busy by working as a pharmacy tech at Mixter's Drugstore. James returned home from the war and made Exeter their home for many years. They had their only child, Cathleen Marie, in 1954. Marie remembered those years in Exeter fondly and valued all the special friendships formed that lasted a lifetime. James accepted a new job opportunity in 1957 and the family moved to Fresno. Marie was a stay at home mother who was an excellent cook, avid gardener, and creative "repurposer." In 1999 to be closer to their daughter, Marie and James moved to Bakersfield. Marie resided at Carriage House Estates for 10 years and enjoyed the many friendships formed there. When Marie required more care, she moved to Brighton Manor where she was lovingly cared for the last two years. The family wants to especially thank the "angels" at Brighton Manor and Hoffmann Hospice for the wonderful care Marie received. Marie is preceded in death by husband of 59 years, James M. Crain, and a brother, Lloyd Glenn. She is survived by daughter, Cathleen Franz and husband, Randall; granddaughter, Sarah Franz; grandson, Scott Franz; niece, Patti Erwin and husband Mike of Cambria; nephew Larry Atkinson; sister in laws Melba Crain of Independence, MO and Christine Crain of Springfield, MO. Private burial Exeter Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith Family Chapel, Exeter. Condolences: www.smithfamilychapel.com Smith Family Chapel www.bakersfield.com/obits
