Elfrieda Loewen Reimer Obituary
Elfrieda Loewen Reimer was called to her eternal home on April 20th, 2015 at the age of 89. Elfrieda was born May 15, 1925 to Peter L. Loewen and Katherine (Tena) Penner in Collinsville, OK but grew up in the Mennonite Ebenfeld community near Hillsboro, KS, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1942. Elfrieda attended the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethern Church where she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized in June of 1938. She received her AA degree and teaching credentials from Tabor College in 1944, and taught elementary school, Sunday School and sang in the church choir.
Elfrieda moved to Fresno, CA to attend Pacific Bible Institute for additional schooling in 1949. It was during this time she was courted by and married Wallace (Wally) Frank Reimer on August 14, 1950. They made their home in Shafter, CA where they farmed and were blessed with four children: son Dwight Larry Reimer, born August 4, 1951, son Peter Mark Reimer, born January 19, 1953, and daughter Elizabeth Ann Reimer, born December 12, 1956, and adopted daughter Connie Ruth Reimer, born July 17, 1963 in 1964 at the age of 10 months. Elfrieda found joy in cooking, sewing, and entertaining family and friends. She was active in the South Shafter Mennonite Brethern Church teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible school and singing in the women's trio and quartet, and also volunteering as a Pink Lady at the former Kern Crest Manor now, Shafter Carrington.
Elfrieda Loewen Reimer was preceded in death by sisters Hulda Loewen Kroeker and Blondine Loewen Schlichting, brothers Waldo Loewen and Hubert Loewen, as well as daughter Elizabeth Ann Reimer (1956) and son Peter Mark Reimer (Debby) (2008). She is survived by husband Wallace (Wally) Frank Reimer, son Dwight Larry Reimer (Patricia) and daughter Connie Reimer Penner (Dennis), granddaughters Brie (Reimer) Kruger and husband Paul, Erin Reimer, Noelle (Penner) Arredondo and husband Marteen, Lorren Penner, and last but not least, great-grandson Samuel Kruger.
A graveside service will be held Friday, April 24 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 11am at Congregational Bible Church, Shafter. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 23 from 4pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
