Ella Mae (Reed) Simpson Obituary
Ella Mae (Reed) Simpson passed away on January 1, 2015 at her daughter's home in Rogue River, Oregon at the age of 94. She leaves behind a husband, Robert Threewit, five children and their spouses:  Fred and Shirley Simpson, Murrel and Connie Simpson, Noreen and Carlos Nickel, Paula and Jerry Bassett, Carolyn and Wayne Allman, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of almost fifty years, Murrel Simpson and her daughter, Pricilla Simpson.
Ella (or Mae, as her family and friends called her) was born on October 2, 1920 in Nocona, Texas to Claud and Nora Reed.  She was the first born of fourteen children.  She worked in the fields, and as a waitress, all while raising her family in a house that she and her husband built one room at a time. She and Murrel retired and moved to Gold Hill, Oregon in 1979.  They lived on eight wooded acres with a creek, built a comfortable guest house for all to visit and lived there surrounded by family until Murrel's passing in 1986. At that time, she moved back to Bakersfield and, with the help of her family, built a home on a small piece of property left from the original home site. She lived there for twenty-eight years, was cared for by her husband, sons and their wives. During the last few months of her life, Mae returned to Rogue River, Oregon to be cared for by her daughters.
Ella Mae will be remembered as a strong, hard working woman who loved her family, dancing, singing, and celebrations.
Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Boulevard, Bakersfield, California on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 am.
