Elmer the first born of Frank and Carrie (Haller) Suorez was born in his grandparents' farmhouse near Panama corner. He was educated in Bakersfield schools Lincoln, Washington as well as the old 3 room Greenfield school followed by KCUHS and graduation from BJC.
Elmer and Geraldine Baldwin were married in February 1942 and later that year he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, where he became the copilot of a B24 bomber.
After the war he worked for Standard oil until he returned to farming in 1950. He retired in 1990.
After retirement he and Geraldine enjoyed their family and friends. Until physical frailty prohibited it, they traveled to many domestic and foreign places.
He was grateful for his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and for his long life with its happiness and sorrows and its pain and pleasure.
The above was written by Elmer Suorez himself twelve years ago, however it does not tell who he truly was.
Dad was the most generous man I have ever known. He gave of himself in every way possible, financially, morally, and physically. He supported those he cared about, no matter the cost to himself.
He had a very sharp mind and was an avid reader and therefore well-versed on most subjects. He had been unable to continue his college education first to serve he country and later because of his growing family, but he loved learning.
He was totally committed to the love of his life Geraldine. They were still holding hands until the day we lost her in 2013. Although that was probably his greatest loss it was not the only one. They tragically lost their son Elmer (Sandy) and their youngest daughter Mryl at very young ages. Over the years he has lost his parents, brothers, sister, brothers-in-law as well as many dear friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Cassandra Petitt and Barbara Russell, and his grandchildren, Paul Reynolds, Hank Russell, Melissa Oliver, and Bill Russell. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Bill Russell II, Emily Kelley, Julia Kelley, Danielle Russell, Christian Russell, as well as nephews, nieces and dear friends.
For those of us privileged to have known him, he will be sorely missed.
