EMMA SANDRINI Obituary
Emma Sandrini 1918 - 2012 Emma Sandrini was born on April 17, 1918, in Bakersfield. She passed away on Wednesday, August 29 at the age of 94 in the Grossman Bum Center at San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield. Her parents, John and Mary Sandrini raised her on the farm in South-West Bakersfield along with her sisters Elsie and Ada. She attended Panama School for eight years: no buses, she and her sister walked. She did her high school years at Kern County Union High School, now Bakersfield High. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, she received her high school teaching credential and later her counseling credential. She achieved her counseling credential by attending summer school sessions at UC Berkeley. She returned to Kern County to begin her teaching career in McFarland. After a couple of years she moved back to Bakersfield where she taught Spanish and was a counselor at Bakersfield High for 38 years. She loved working with high school age students and spent many happy years surrounded by them, even after she retired. Her love of education continued even after retirement. Several Laotian families moved into her neighborhood with several children needing to learn English. She spent many hours each week tutoring these children in her home through elementary and high school. One of these children, now a medical doctor, said she would never have made it through elementary and high school without her. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elsie Actis and Ada Sandrini and by her niece, Ada Allan. She is survived by her niece, Joyce Weingarden of Bakersfield and her husband David; grand-nephew John Weingarden of Bakersfield and his boys Parker and Wyatt; grand-niece Michelle Weingarden of Bakersfield; grand-niece Leslie Grant of Kirkland, Washington and her husband Ron and children Aaron, Hannah and Simon; grand-nephew Paul Allan of Castro Valley and his wife Shirley and children Patricia and Christopher; grand-niece Stephanie Reeves of Orlando, Florida and her husband David and children, Justin, Nathan and Morgan; and grand-niece Mary Chandler of Crested Butte, Colorado and her husband John and son Levi. There are multiple cousins in America and Italy.
