Erasto Colon, 66, of Lamont, passed away February 3, 2013 in his wife's arms after a two year battle with multiple myeloma cancer. The youngest of 13 siblings, Colon was born in Comerio, Puerto Rico on June 16, 1946 to Marcelino Colon and Luz Maria Colon but lived in Lamont for 49 years. He was married for 44 years to the former Margarita Villalpando, of Lamont, Erasto was active in his church, was retired after 13 years at Grimmway Farms, but also spent years as a carpenter and farmworker. Friends and family members remember Colon as a man of few words, but many actions. He spent years making improvements to his home, including painting, installing new tile, and remodeling the bathroom and kitchen. He always reminded his kids to check the tires and fluids of their cars, often rechecking them himself, even when cancer forced him to use a walker. Two days before major cancer surgery in 2012, he pruned a big oak tree in his backyard, and two weeks after, he drove against his doctor's advice to visit a sick friend. When asked how he did it, he responded, "very slowly." Colon is survived by his wife, Margarita Colon; his children, twins Ernesto and Ernestina Colon, Erasto Colon Jr., Luz Maria Colon, Joel Colon; and nine grandchildren, Mark Colon, Alina Colon, Sabrina Colon, Neena Colon, Ayanna Soto, Anthony; he also joins three grandbabies in Heaven.
