Eugenia D. "Jean" Padgett Obituary
Jean Padgett passed away peacefully on June 8, 2014, at the age of 92. Jean lived in Geer County, Oklahoma. Due to flooding, the doctor had to forge the flooded Buffalo Creek and spent three days, as it was a hard delivery. She was born on the homestead, near Granite, Oklahoma, on September 12, 1921, the 7th of seven children born to Wm. Porter and Zerva Ellen Townsend. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Effie, Stella, and Iva May; and brothers, Burt, Fred, and Amos.
Jean was a nurse working in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, during the early '40s. She came to California where she met her future husband of 54 years, Robert J. Padgett, who predeceased her on September 12, 2002. They moved to Lamont, California, in 1948. Jean continued her nursing career over the years at the Little Bakersfield Hospital, Memorial, and Mercy Downtown.
Mom always had a knack (green thumb) for growing plants. Gardening became a favorite pastime of hers, as well as sewing and quilting. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially as the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along. She was loved deeply by her family and friends, who will miss her very much.
Jean is survived by her children, son, Dennis Dale Padgett; daughter, Belva Carol Williams and husband, Rick; and daughter, Mary Ellen Hough. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care provided to Mom by Dr. Wm. F. Baker, Janice Knowlton, Physician's Assist., and all the staff at Hoffmann Hospice, and Golden Living Center in Shafter, California.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2014, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Lane.
