Evalene Mildred Epps February 14, 1920 - August 14, 2012 Evalene Mildred Epps passed away August 14th 2012 at age 92. Evalene was born on Valentine's Day in 1920. She was the 4th of 9 children born to Ulvie and Maggie Epps, on a 640 acre ranch in McAlester, Oklahoma. She was married and divorced twice. Evalene had one child a baby girl named Arlene Best, who passed away at the age of two weeks. Evalene was always a hard worker from the time she was a small girl working on the family farm to the many other occupations she held. Two of her favorite jobs were working as a welder in the shipyards in San Francisco during World War II and owning and operating Star Market Service Station and Liquor Store with her father here in Kern County. Evalene was well known for her quick wit and high spirits. She was much loved and will be deeply missed by her many dear friends and devoted neighbors. Evalene enjoyed reading the Bible. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16 because she loved her savior, Jesus Christ. Many thanks go to the nurses and staff at Hoffmann Hospice for their dedication and devotion to Evalene. Services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery, 2739 Panama Lane on Thursday August 23rd, at 6:00pm. www.bakersfield.com/obits
