Evelyn was born in Arizona but came to live in Bakersfield when she was about three. She attended local schools and was a graduate of East High, class of '55. She worked while in high school at McMahan's Furniture store in the credit department. Many years later, McMahan's is where she met her future husband, Howard. They were very close until his death in 1982.
Evelyn had an incredible work ethic. She continued to work and later she became a licensed insurance agent, and also worked in the fire and restoration industry. Her last position was with a local car dealership where she was an administrative assistant. This is one job Evelyn truly enjoyed, along with working on local charity events, fund-raisers, and golf tournaments.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. Especially, being "Nana" to her grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother. She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Laura and Tim Rice, Stacey and Jeff Christiansen; grandsons, Garrett Rice, Connor Cox; granddaughter, Danielle Christiansen; and great-grandson, Gavin Rice. Evelyn leaves behind three sisters and a brother, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Angel.
