Flossie Evelyn Beacham Obituary
Flossie Evelyn Beacham 1918 ~ 2013 Born May 8, 1918, Flossie Evelyn King, born in Arkansas to Lee and Willie King, one of nine children. She attended school in the area and Sunday school and church. In 1934 she became a born again Christian and joined the Baptist Church. On May 31, 1935, Flossie married Bruce Beacham, who later was working as cost accountant and payroll clerk for the U.S. Government. In 1941 a daughter, Sandra June, was born to the Beachams. Later that year they moved to Las Vegas until 1943, when they moved to Bakersfield. In 1945 their son, Arnold Bruce, was born. Both children preceded them in death. In 1947 they moved to El Cerrito, CA, where her husband was employed in the Bay Area-San Francisco. In 1949 Flossie opened up her first ladies wearing apparel store in Concord, CA, where she and her husband later moved. As her business grew, the store was later relocated in a large shopping center, Park N Shop. Business finally expanded and she opened another store in Vallejo, CA, in the new shopping center, Larwin Plaza. She was owner, general manager, and buyer for both stores. But 19 years later, she sold both stores in order to go with her husband to Bakersfield, where he was transferred by his company in 1972. They both attended church and Sunday school in the Bay Area and later in Concord, where they made their home. In Bakersfield, they were members of 1st Southern Baptist Church. Flossie served as church clerk for 24 years in both the Bay Area and Bakersfield. She also served as sponsor of intermediate boys and girls classes in Training Union and as leader in VBS. Both were charter members of Bethel Baptist Church in Concord and served in various departments. She then joined Calvary Bible with her late husband, Bruce, who passed in 1981. Bruce retired in 1980 after serving 36 years for Pacific Pipeline and Engineers, Ltd. They had a very happy life together for 62 years. Flossie is survived by nephews, Victor Bull, Gene Bull and wife, Eleanor, Larry Spain and wife, Paulette, and Ron Spain; nieces, Connie Hogan and Carol Spain; and sister-in-law, Florine Spain.
