FLOYD ESTES "BUD" KELLY, JR. 1930 - 2013 Floyd Estes "Bud" Kelly Jr. 82 passed from this life on April 15th, 2013 in Bakersfield, California following many years of bravely living with the effects of Wegener's granulomatosis. Bud was born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 30th, 1930, the only child of Floyd and Katherine Kelly. He graduated from Treadwell High School in Memphis and married Shirley Dean Escue, his high school sweetheart while serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his return their only child was born while Bud worked on the Memphis Police Force eventually rising to the rank of Vice Squad lieutenant detective. He worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service, ultimately retiring to Sardis, Mississippi with his wife Margaret. After suffering the untimely death of Margaret to cancer, he rekindled his childhood love affair with his first wife Shirley having not spoken to each other for 50 years. Bud moved from Mississippi to Bakersfield to be with Shirley and his extended family who reveled in his presence and their mutual love and joy for sixteen happy months until he was suddenly called to his heavenly home. He is survived by his first wife Shirley Dean Hooper, only child Michael Kelly Hooper, Daughter-in-Law Susie Hooper; Grandsons Michael Garrett Hooper and Nicholas Adam Kelly, Nicks wife Carly Kelly and one precious Great Grandson; Garrett Adam Hooper all of whom he adored. Floyd Estes Kelly, Jr. had an extraordinary gift of demonstrating true caring and unconditional love. He will be forever missed by those of us so blessed to have experienced it. A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 10:00 Friday morning. The story of one's life can be an amazing thing, occasionally through the grace of God, you really can "go home again." DOUGHTY-CALHOUN-O'MEARA www.bakersfield.com/obits
