Frances Ellen Carroll Kinikin November 1, 1911 - July 15, 2013 Frances Ellen Carroll Kinikin was born November 1, 1911 and passed away on July 15, 2013. She was a native of Elwood, Kansas where she attended both grade school and high school. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1933. On September 22, 1937, she married Eugene Lyle Kinikin in Los Angeles, CA. Eugene passed away in 1983. Frances was the first Registered Nurse to be hired at Greater Bakersfield Memorial Hospital when it was opened in 1956. She retired from Memorial Hospital after 20 years of service. Upon her retirement, she was active in volunteer work with several organizations in Bakersfield. Frances was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1956. She was a member of AARP and served as President of local Chapter #1155 several times. She was active in the Kern County Fire Department Retirees' Association. Frances leaves three surviving daughters, Leonie Neumann of Woodstock, New York and Kathryn Kinikin and Fran Thompson of Bakersfield. She also leaves six grandchildren, Terry Neumann, David Neumann (Julie), Scott Neumann, Kevin Thompson (Vicky), Jeff Thompson (Lorie) and Kellie Grisedale (Michael) and 15 great grandchildren. Frances loved her family and especially enjoyed her great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews all across the United States. In 2011 a celebration of her 100th birthday was held and many of these relatives traveled across the United States to attend. Frances is also survived by a number of friends who have remained close to her through the years. The family would like to extend its gratitude to Dr. David Dougherty and his staff for caring for Frances and to Hoffman Hospice and Right at Home for their assistance and loving care during her recent illness.
