Frances Mabel Zietlow Obituary
Frances Mabel Zietlow August 10, 1928 - June 27, 2012 Frances Mabel Zietlow was born the only child of Archibald and Florence McColl, in Montreal, Canada. She immigrated to the US and was raised in Norfolk, New York graduating from Weslayan Roberts College; then completing her B.S. Nursing- University of Rochester. She made life-long friendships in Nurses Training; this circle of girl friends remained close to the end. They include Peggy Mulford, Eleanor Hill, Daphney Cohen and Ruthie Rogers (deceased). She also held close to her heart a childhood friend Colleen, affectionately known as Pete, together they enjoyed sharing their memories of Plum Brook road and the old family farm. Frances was an adventurous individual, making her solo trip west shortly after graduating from college. It was in the San Fernando Valley, the Veteran's Hospital, where she met her husband and life-long companion, Walter Zietlow (deceased 1988). Retired from Kern Medical Center, County of Kern, Fran had fond memories of those with whom she worked. Affectionately known as Mrs. Z, she was the night supervisor at KMC; keeping the hospital "house" humming brought her great joy and satisfaction. She looked forward to the new residents each year, some of whom grew to become long time family friends. A few of those very special individuals are: Dr. Michael Michael, Dr. Deng Fa Fong, and Dr. Amir. Frances leaves behind two daughters, Jodi Loeffler (Barry), Carrie Fritz (Terry), her grandchildren, Jacob, Elizabeth (Libby) Loeffler, Alyssa, Ian and Quentin Fritz. Those who knew Fran, knew she was a baseball and music enthusiast. She also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds in her garden and spoke regularly to her doves. She read her Bible daily and loved the Lord. A special thank you to Marta and Maria her caregiver and housekeeper, both of whom she considered close friends as well as Pastor Tyler and his wife Billie, of Bethany Lutheran Church, for whom she cared greatly. The family would like to thank the dedicated nursing team at Memorial (Shirley and Shei) for their compassion as well as the following physicians: Dr. Rahimifar, Laughlin, Mui, McNamara, and Helvie. Visitation is Friday, June 29th from 4:00 to 6:00pm at Greenlawn. Graveside services, Saturday, June 30th, at 10:00am, Greenlawn, River Blvd. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Bethany Lutheran Church. Go Angels! www.bakersfield.com/obits
